Shopping
The casinos have made the Boardwalk the heart of Atlantic City and have helped to revitalize shopping along the beach. Shopping emporiums house restaurants and shops featuring everything from designer clothes to T-shirts. More high-fashion boutiques can be found in the casinos.
The glitter of the casinos has not diminished the Boardwalk's older charms: A wide range of stores offers everything from plastic souvenirs to fine jewelry. Between these extremes visitors can find nearly anything they might want or need: Toys, fudge and saltwater taffy, T-shirts emblazoned while you wait, swimwear and other beach supplies are a sampling of available merchandise.
The Walk is a multi-block shopping, dining and entertainment district between the Boardwalk and the Atlantic City Convention Center with more than 60 restaurants and shops, including Polo Ralph Lauren and Tommy Hilfiger. High-end retailers including Gucci, Louis Vuitton and Burberry as well as restaurants and nightclubs may be found at The Pier at Caesar's, on the Boardwalk near Caesars Atlantic City; it is scheduled to open in early 2006.
Beyond the beach and Atlantic City are several other popular shopping areas, including the Central Square Shopping Center on US 9 in Linwood, with more than 70 specialty stores; Hamilton Mall in Mays Landing next to the Atlantic City Race Course; the Shore Mall on the Black Horse Pike in Egg Harbor Township; and the Towne of Historic Smithville, which offers Colonial-style crafts.
