About Weehawken
Alexander Hamilton and Aaron Burr met on the dueling grounds of Weehawken on July 11, 1804, the result of a minor insult and a long-standing enmity. Hamilton was mortally wounded; Burr's political career suffered a fatal blow. In a strange twist of fate, Hamilton's 19-year-old son had been killed on the same field 3 years earlier, and Hamilton chose his son's dueling pistol as a weapon.
Weehawken is the home of the Lincoln Tunnel, which links Central New Jersey and midtown Manhattan beneath the Hudson River. Each year some 22 million commuters travel through Weehawken via the world's only three-portal underwater vehicular tunnel.
