About Pleasantville

Originally known as Smith's Landing, this 17th-century settlement began along a stage coach route on Old Shore Road. It was part of Egg Harbor Township until 1888. Legend has it that a local storeowner erected a sign saying “Lake's Store, Pleasantville, New Jersey,” and the name stuck.
