About Florham Park

The name Florham Park was derived from the first names of millionaire Hamilton Twombly and his wife, Florence; the “Park” was added in honor of Dr. Leslie D. Ward's estate, Brooklake Park.

The College of St. Elizabeth, a Catholic liberal arts college founded in Morrison County in 1899, is said to be the oldest women's college in the state; current enrollment is 1,800. The 420-acre campus is partially in the town of Convent Station; phone (973) 290-4000. Shared by the town of Madison, the Florham-Madison campus of Fairleigh Dickinson University occupies 187 acres on the site of the former Twombly estate. Tours of the 2,000-student campus are available by appointment; phone (973) 443-8500.

The Little Red Schoolhouse, Ridgedale Avenue and Columbia Turnpike, was built in 1866 and used as a school until 1914. The schoolhouse is now a museum operated by the Florham Park Historical Society. The Twombly Mansion, begun in 1893 and completed in 1896, serves as an administration building at Fairleigh Dickinson University. The 100-room manor house is a replica of one wing of Hampton Court in England.
